The Importance of Black Educators - Special Education Edition

Mon Apr 07 2025 6:30PM – 8:30PM | Mon Apr 07 2025

Event Description:

The Importance of Black Educators is an event that is annually hosted by the Xi Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Each year, we focus on different parts of the educational system and how there is a lack of black representation within schools across the country. This event will focus on black educators in the special education field. Not only will the panel consist of special educators, but it will also consist of the Executive Director of Exceptional Student Education. This event will provide statistics on black educators, their effect on their students, and an in-depth presentation on their experiences as a minority within their chosen field. As Winthrop University is a teaching school at heart, this event would resonate with the majority of students here.
